totalTotal wins second business award in four years

Total Glass, one of the UK’s most successful fabricators, has once again claimed a prestigious business award for outstanding performance across all areas of its operations.

The Liverpool-based PVC-U and aluminium fabricator’s focus on training and employment growth, along with its commitment to product quality and sound business principles, contributed to its clinching the Best Small Business Award for outstanding performance in the Knowsley Economic Forum Enterprise Awards 2008.

One of the city’s largest employers, Total Glass first won an Enterprise Award in 2004 and this time received recognition for its outstanding performance for a firm with 250 or fewer employees. The prestigious award win coincides with a 25 per cent growth increase in 2008 – bucking current industry trends amid the economic downturn.

The awards recognise the achievements of outstanding businesses in the North West area and are open to all sizes and types of businesses. Production Manager David Ogilvie accepted the engraved glass trophy on behalf of the company at a special ceremony organised by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Several factors have contributed to Total’s sustained growth in recent months, including diversification into aluminium fabrication and an increase in its customer base from companies switching from PVC-U window manufacture to buy in frames.

Additionally, in April 2008, the company secured a multi-million pound PVC-U window contract through Merseyside-based social economy business Fusion21 to supply quality, pre-glazed PVC-U windows for 14,000 homes in Liverpool managed by registered housing association Liverpool Mutual Homes.

The partnership project, one of the biggest in Total’s 25-year history, also created 35 new jobs at its 100,000 sq ft Knowsley production facility, taking the number of staff up to 165.

Commenting on the award, Frank Deary, Total Group Managing Director, said: “We are absolutely honoured and delighted to receive this prestigious award, especially for the second time in four years and in competition with some very big players in the North West.

“Part of our submission focused on training and employment growth, and clearly the jobs that have been created directly from our delivery of the LMH contract will have helped us score well in this area of the decision-making process.”

Frank added: “This award also reinforces the ‘Rock Solid for 25 Years’ ethos behind everything we do in serving the complete requirements of our customers in the trade, commercial and social housing sectors. It also recognises that success and growth is possible even in difficult times.”
